We first discovered Kerbey Lane when we moved to Austin over five years ago. New to the area, we chose an apartment way up north, which happened to be incredibly inconvenient to the college Kendan was attending (Texas State University). The one good thing about that apartment (other than the affordable rent), was that it was literally a few feet behind a Kerbey Lane Cafe restaurant. This location actually moved a few years ago a little further north, but not before we left that apartment.
Since we were new to Austin, the idea of having a 24 hour restaurant that wasn't an IHOP in the vicinity of our residence was a huge plus. We had just moved from Huntsville, Texas where we attended Sam Houston State University, and once we started frequenting Kerbey, we knew this was a completely different level of quality, service, and taste. I was blown away by the food and loved that is was always available. Kerbey holds a special place in my heart, and I have tons of memories eating there (and plan to create even more).
After I went plant-based, it was surprisingly super easy to visit Kerbey. They have an entirely separate menu that you can request when ordering, and they include many vegan items on their main menu. Every day they offer a vegan pancake, and among my favorites are cinnamon peach, key lime pie and cinnamon roll. The pancakes are served with vegan butter, and if you order the Vegan Breakfast Platter, you'll also receive an amazing tofu scramble and soysausages. Yes -- soysauges. I LOVE these and also the name for them.
Every time we have guests in town, we take them to Kerbey Lane Cafe. And every time those guests visit again, they specifically request that we return and add a meal to our list of to-do's! Also, if you have a Go Local Austin card, you can receive 10% off of your bill Monday-Thursday. Whenever we find ourselves hungry and looking for some great breakfast food, whether it be 8 a.m. or 11 p.m., we opt for Kerbey. Find the closest location to you and check them out today!
thanks for your review and letting me know a little more about this place. i have been there once many years ago as a vegan and wanna go again, living out of town does not help of course, but i am reading their menu to see what they now offer.
